NGC 2841, galaxia espiral floculante en la Osa Mayor
Text by Georges Jasiewicz, amateur astronomer and good friend . NGC 2841 is a spiral galaxy in Ursa Major located 50 million Lt Yrs from The Sun. With its condensed nucleus, the NGC 2841 appears quite bright in the telescope.
Edwin Hubble classified spiral galaxies of this type as "SB" (spiral, barred) in his Hubble sequence and arranged them into sub-categories based on how open the arms of the spiral are. SB0 is a barred lenticular galaxy.
NGC 2841uses other names UGC4966, PGC26512, MCG 9-16-5 and few more. It is considered one of the best examples of flocculent spiral galaxy, a type of galaxy in which instead of having two or more well-developed spiral arms, the spiral structure consists of a multitude of spiral arm fragments around the galactic nucleus.
Apparent magnitude is 10.06, galaxy type is SBb and it is a circumpolar object.
Angular size along the axis is 6.9 arcmins.
Simplemente fantástica!!
